On January 30, 2016 Chile celebrates 100 years from the completion date of San Antonio Port, the main maritime terminal to the Pacific Ocean of this South-American state.
On the cliff of the old port, one of the four 22t Pinguely cranes that contributed to the completion of this work during the period 1912 – 1916 still watches over the coast.
As a sign of appreciation for the French manufacturer that acquired a well-deserved international reputation, the Ministry of Education from Chile placed a commemorative plaque near this equipment which states for posterity that on May 5, 1912, in the presence of the president Ramon Barros Luco, the crane number 82 put the first stone at the foundation of what was to become the country’s main maritime gate – Porto San Antonio de Chille.
Quite remarkable, however, is the fact that this Pinguely crane with the inventory number 82 manufactured in 1911 in the workshops in Lyon, continued to operate until 1990 when, for safety reasons, it was dismantled and classed as historic monument by the Decree number 465 of August 2, 2015.
Today it represents, not only for Chile, but also for all clients of Haulotte Group, a clear proof for the quality and reliability of the equipment manufactured so far in the Pinguely Workshops from the region Rhone Alpes.
